3. Manchester United - £88 million spend

A massive jump back to Manchester United in third place, and since 2006 they have spent £88 million more than they have received in transfers.

The timeframe we're examining fits quite nicely with the arrival of the Glazer family as owners the year before, and for a club the size of Manchester United, a net spend of under £100 million seems somewhat low - although the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo may have something to do with that.

Despite their low spending compared to their rivals, Manchester United look on course to reclaim the league title, having missed out so dramatically to Manchester City last time round.
