Liverpool striker Luis Suarez will seek a move away from Anfield if he is not playing Champions League football soon, according to Edinson Cavani.
Suarez’s international teammate has warned Brendan Rodgers he will need to get his club into the top four of the Premier League next season at the latest if he is to hold on to the in-form striker.
The Uruguayan has scored 29 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season and last week admitted he would consider an offer to leave if it came form a Champions League club.
However, he insisted he was content on Merseyside and Cavani’s quotes echo this sentiment, though he warned continued failure to sit at Europe’s top table will eventually see them lose him.
“The fact is that Luis is one of the top strikers in the world and he wants to be playing Champions League football,” he is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.
“Of course, Liverpool are not going to make it this season. But if they don’t make it next season then they will have a problem.
“Luis would love to play in the Champions League with Liverpool. But if he can’t then a player of his quality needs to play for a club where he can.”
Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League and are nine points off fourth with only eight games remaining.
