Wolverhampton Wanderers have been hit by the news that 3 of their key players may not play again this season because of injury.

Welsh midfielder Dave Edwards, Nigerian goalkeeper Carl Ikeme and French midfielder Bakary Sako are all doubtful for the crucial run-in that will attempt to see Wolves climb away from the relegation zone.

Dave Edwards picked up a foot injury during the game at Ashton Gate against Bristol City and limped off before the end of the game.

Similarly, Carl Ikeme also fell to an injury at the weekend but it came in the most bizarre circumstances. Following his frustration at conceding a poor goal, during the half time break Ikeme lashed out at the tactics board and has broken a bone in his hand.

Sako was the third player to obtain an injury at Ashton Gate, suffering a hamstring strain, which meant the Frenchman had to be substituted.

Phil Hayward, head of the medical team, has been consulting the first-team management at Wolves, and confirmed Dean Saunders will be preparing for the next eight games without three key players.

Speaking on the club website Hayward said: "Bakary suffered a grade 2 hamstring tear and will be side-lined for six to eight weeks. It will be a battle for him to play again this season.

"Dave suffered a stress fracture of his metatarsal, an injury which is not uncommon at this stage of the season, especially in players who cover as much ground as Dave.

"Carl has undergone surgery on his broken hand which has included some metalwork going in there which will be removed in five weeks' time. As with the other two it is going to be difficult for him to feature again this season."
