Former Bristol City manager Derek McInnes has succeeded Chris Brown to take the vacant managerial position at Aberdeen, the club have confirmed.
McInnes will start after the Scottish Premier League's split next month. McInnes's assistant Tony Docherty, who had assisted McInnes at both St Johnstone and Bristol City has been employed as the assistant manager.
Both McInnes and Docherty have signed two-and-a-half year deals with the Dons.
Former Scotland boss Craig Levein had been linked with the position, but Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne was impressed with the duo all throughout the interview process. Milne told a press confrence: "From the moment Craig Brown announced his intention to step down, Derek and Tony were at the forefront of our thoughts alongside other potential candidates.
"We were all hugely impressed with Derek's assessment of the club, its potential, and what they believed was required to move it on from the strong platform that Craig and Archie Knox have established."
On his appointment, McInnes told reporters: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to manage a club of the stature of Aberdeen Football Club and I'm determined to repay the faith the Pittodrie board has shown in me.
"Having been given an outline of the club's vision of the future I can clearly see the ambition here."
Aberdeen chairman Milne would no doubt have been impressed by McInnes's achievements at former club Bristol City. Following his spell at Ashton Gate from October 2011 to January 2013, McInnes managed to save City from what seemed like certain relegation from the Championship.
