Jamie Carragher has praised manager Brendan Rodgers for the style of football he has implemented at Liverpool this season.

The veteran centre-back, who's retiring at the end of the season, believes the Anfield outfit are playing the best football he's seen throughout his tenure at Liverpool.

Carragher told Liverpool's official site: "We've always played football at the club but I would say that Brendan Rodgers has taken it on another level in terms of playing football.

"He wants us to play even more football than I have ever been brought up to play.

"But we've always been a passing club and that will never change."

Despite being in the final months of his career, Carragher has played a key role in Liverpool's second half of the season.

Since starting at the Emirates against Arsenal in February, Carragher has enjoyed a number of games back in the side.

Carragher also told of his pleasure to be back playing on a regualr baisis:

"It was really good to be back.

"I've missed it over the past 12 months, so to have a run of games makes you really feel part of it.

"When you come in for the odd game now and then it's great but you know that you have to come out (of the team) and you don't really feel as much a part of things.

"Being in and amongst the lads is great. Knowing that you are going to play helps as well.

"Sometimes you go into games and you're not sure, but if you know that you are playing, you can think about the opposition and start to get your mind ready for the game."

Next up for Liverpool is a trip to Aston Villa, as they will hope to make amends after defeat to Southampton before the international break. Brendan Rodgers' side will be desperate for victory, especially if they have any ambitions to make a late surge for Champions League places.

The Reds are currently nine points behind fourth placed Tottenham, with just eight games remaining.
