Wigan Athletic defender Antolin Alcaraz has insisted that Premier League survival is the club's priority despite the Latics' trip to Wembley next month.

Alcaraz has stated that the FA Cup semi-final against Millwall at Wembley should still be held in high regard, but the race to beat the drop should be at the forefront of the Wigan players' minds.

Alcaraz told the Wigan Evening Post: "We have Wembley to look forward to but for me the most important game is always the next one and this is against Norwich City."

Wigan go into the game against Norwich City on the back of a 2-1 victory against fellow strugglers Newcastle United. With the international break giving the Latics' squad a chance to rest and regroup before a busy month, Alcaraz insists the club can survive once again.

On Wigan's first ever FA Cup semi-final against Millwall next month, Alcaraz added: "We will worry about the FA Cup when it comes around next month.

"For now we must concentrate on the league because there are some important games coming up.

"We have shown in the last few games that we can win games in this league and we must keep that up if we are to move away from the bottom of the table."

Wigan have been successful in beating the drop for the last two seasons. In the 2010/11 campaign, they were in the bottom three for most of the season and only retained their Premier League status on the final day thanks to a Hugo Rodellega goal at Stoke City.

Then, in the 2011/12 season, Wigan were saved in the penultimate game of the season after recording a 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers, who were relegated in the process.

Wigan will be looking to repeat their heroics under Roberto Martinez this season, with the FA Cup being more of an additional bonus rather than the focus point of their season.
