Dirk Kuyt | Ex-Liverpool
Admittedly no longer a Premier League player, but there's no way this list was getting done without a mention of the Dutch freight train. Positively addicted to graft, Dirk Kuyt would run up and down the flank unblinkingly for hours, just grafting and grafting.
Not once did you hear about the fact that Kuyt was actually a striker, signed probably on the basis that he had an incredibly good goalscoring record in Holland - 71 strikes in 101 appearances. Like a good worker ant, he didn't complain.
Oh no, for Liverpool he was tasked with doing a "job". And on the Anfield terraces he was loved dearly, but elsewhere there was a slight whiff of a condescending attitude towards the Dutchman, as though his ability was defined only by his work ethic.
That was prodigious no doubt, but Kuyt was a mighty fine player as well.
