Arsenal are reportedly set to be joined by London rivals West Ham in the race to sign highly-rated youngster Abdisalam Ibrahim from Manchester City, while Liverpool and Tottenham are also being linked with the midfielder.
According to the Daily Express, Arsenal are sending their top scout to Norway to watch Ibrahim play for Stromsgodset, where he will be on loan for the rest of the season.
Arsene Wenger is reported to be keen to reinforce his midfield during the summer transfer window, and the Gunners may be able to get Ibrahim for a cut-price fee, with his contract set to expire in 2014.
Arsenal could, however, face stern competition for the 21-year-old - who has been likened to Gunners legend Patrick Vieira - with West Ham also monitoring his development, as are West Brom and Norwich.
Ibrahim has made only one senior appearance for Manchester City since he was acquired from youth team football in Norway five years ago, with the solitary game coming against Scunthorpe in the FA Cup in 2010.
The Norwegian later joined Scunthorpe on loan, for who he made 11 appearances, before he joined Dutch club N.E.C and, latterly, current club Stromsgodset.
