Pedro sunk 10-man France in Paris, as Spain took a massive step towards qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Rio.
The Barcelona winger’s 58th minute goal was enough to grab all three points at the Stade de France, and leave France staring at a play-off.
The 25-year-old managed to knock in the all important goal after diverting the ball into the net from Arsenal's new left-back Nacho Monreal.
Any French hopes of a revival in the game were then dealt a blow, as former Manchester United youngster Paul Pogba was sent off following two yellow cards in as many minutes.
Spain felt aggrieved in the first-half after being denied a penalty, with Pedro seemingly brought down by Tottenham stopper Hugo Lloris in the box. Hungarian referee Victor Kassai was not interested and waved play on.
The World and European champions were in danger of not automatically qualifying it they lost this game, and would have been five points behind France if defeat were to happen.
However, they are now in pole position to defend their title in Rio, and need three wins against relative minnows to secure their place in the competition proper.
