USA international Clint Dempsey joined Tottenham last summer in a £6m deal, a fee many regarded as a bargain.

The former Fulham striker scored 50 Premier League goals for the Cottagers in five years and was highly regarded by the club's supporters and neutral fans alike.

He had indicated that he wanted to depart from Fulham in a search for glory and handed in a transfer request earlier in the summer. Many clubs expressed some interest; however, no deal looked on the verge of completion.

It wasn't until deadline day, when Aston Villa, Liverpool and Tottenham informed Fulham of their interest. His transfer to Spurs was the subject of a late night move after he turned down both the Reds and Aston Villa.

Spurs fans were excited about the prospect of this signing due to his goalscoring credentials. However, the Texas-born player has found it hard to keep up his goalscoring exploits.

Having only scored eight goals in 33 appearances, many Tottenham supporters have been disappointed with his efforts. Despite this, he has scored crucial goals including a late equaliser against Manchester United in a tough encounter at White Hart Lane.

With Gylfi Sigurdsson hitting some form as of late and the addition of January signing Lewis Holtby, many have questioned whether Dempsey is still needed at Spurs and if he is still a part of Andre Villas-Boas' future plans.

However, with Emmanuel Adebayor out injured and Jermain Defoe losing form, Dempsey may have some more chances at the club.

Will Dempsey be a Tottenham player next season? An active summer transfer window could be the decider.
