Manchester City's Argentine striker Sergio Aguero could return to Premier League action against Newcastle United this weekend, according to reports.

Aguero has not played a game since sustaining a knee injury against Chelsea in a 2-0 win at the end of last month. He recently made a comeback into training after going through physiotherapy in Argentina.

City are trailing leaders and bitter rivals Manchester United by 15 points, and the loss of Aguero over the past month hasn't helped City's case.

With the title race all-but over, the Citizens need to retain second place and try to close the gap between them and the leaders. Aguero's goal-scoring credentials should steer Manchester City in the right direction.

The former Atletico Madrid talisman scored the winning goal last season against Queens Park Rangers to win the Premier League title - in a season that he scored 30 goals in all competitions.

After a miserable 2-0 loss against Everton, Aguero's return will be a timely boost to Roberto Mancini. He provides a goal-scoring threat and can help City advance in the FA Cup with a potential semi-final against either Manchester United or Chelsea.
