Arsenal's youngsters on the verge of European triumph
NextGen Series looks to be the likeliest source of silverware for Arsenal this season
Arsenal’s youth academy are looking to outgun the senior side by taking home a coveted piece of silverware this season.
The Young Guns reached the semi-finals of the European NextGen Series after an impressive win against CSKA Moscow at the Emirates.
Playing in front of a crowd of over 6,000 at the Emirates stadium, Arsenal came through after a Serge Gnabry strike gave the club a 1-0 win.
This season has seen the youngsters come through a series of tough encounters with the highlight being a 1-0 win at a waterlogged San Siro against Inter Milan.
The win set up an all-London semi-final against Chelsea with the tie being played this Friday in Lake Como, Italy.
The prospect of winning the Next Gen series is no doubt whetting the appetite of the young gunners but Chelsea aren’t going to give this semi-final up without a fight, who are sure to have some confidence of their own having knocked out Barcelona and Juventus respectively on their way to the semis.
Chelsea hammered Italian giants Juventus in the last round winning 4-1 and they’re looking to emulate the senior team’s success in the UEFA Champions League last season.
The London clubs are also joined by Aston Villa whom they could meet in the final on Monday should they beat Sporting Lisbon.
With the quality that the Gunners have and the wins they’ve accomplished they should have the confidence to run down the home straight and put their hands on the trophy.
