Manchester United only need 13 more points from their remaining nine games to seal a record 20th league title.

Sir Alex Ferguson has frequently stated how frustrating it was to lose the league crown to Manchester City on goal difference in the final minute of last season, and vowed it wouldn’t happen again.

And whilst the team came into early season criticism over their sloppy defending, they were confident in their ability to outscore any team they played, either home or away.

The signing of Robin van Persie has been touted as the signing of the year, and even with a quite substantial goal drought by his standards in the recent weeks, he has still been at the heart of United's success. The 29-year-old has amassed a scintillating 19 league goals this year. Only Luis Suarez, the mercurial Liverpool hit man has scored more with 22 goals to his name.

Many fans, pundits, and even Roberto Mancini have branded United’s new talisman as the title decider, however, there is definitely more to it than that.

Manchester City just don’t seem to be the same team that they were last year, they are no longer hitting teams for four or five goals on a regular basis, and with a few key injuries they have seen their season never really kick start.

Although United have also had their own injury problems, they have certainly coped better than their nearest rivals, who have in all honesty, failed to put up a fight for the title they famously won last year.

The City squad just doesn’t seem as strong as it did last year, Garcia and Sinclair have failed to step up to the plate, and with Rodwell’s ongoing injury problems their signings can only be regarded as disappointing.

However, United on the other hand have come back more determined than ever to reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs, and have unceremoniously dumped the Citizens from top of the tree.

United have hit back with a vengeance, and this season the Red Devils won't throw their lead away.
