Top five: Next international record breakers (3)

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - international goals: 34

There is only one player who can prevent Robin van Persie ending his international career as the top goalscorer for his country, and that is current teammate and sometimes strike partner Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Like Van Persie, Huntelaar has scored 34 times for the Netherlands, and is only seven shy of surpassing the achievements of current record holder Patrick Kluivert, who scored 40 in 79 games.

At present, however, Huntelaar is being kept out of Louis van Gaal's national side by Van Persie, so the Manchester United star retains the greater chance of breaking new ground in Dutch international football.

Huntelaar, the same age as Van Persie at 29, does, however, boast a better goalscoring rate than his compatriot, with his 34 goals coming in 59 appearances, compared to 74 for the ex-Arsenal captain.
