Lionel Messi - international goals: 32
Lionel Messi has earned almost every goalscoring record available over the past few seasons, with the Barcelona star breaking new ground in the history of European football seemingly at will.
The 25-year-old, however, has some way to go before he can be heralded as the greatest Argentine goalscorer on the international stage, with Gabriel Batistuta's record of 56 goals significantly ahead of Messi's current tally.
Batistuta's impressive haul came in only 78 appearances, one less than Messi has played for his country, but few would bet against the former eventually surpassing the record of the former Fiorentina striker.
Messi has scored 13 goals in his last 11 games for Argentina and, given his impressive fitness levels, will have plenty of time to score the further 25 needed to overtake Batistuta.
