A lot of players smash onto the scene in an impressive style, but not many fans actually know where they come from or where they have been developed.
In the Premier League, Manchester United lead the way with developing home-grown players with 24 youth products currently playing in European's top five football divisions.
The English Premier League leaders can also boast nine stars in their current first-team that have come up from their youth ranks - Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck all provide important first team contributions.
However, thanks to research conducted by the people at FourFourTwo magazine, we are able to see, for the first time, which clubs in Europe are producing the most successful academy players across several different fields.
Although Barcelona unsurprisingly lead the way with producing the most players currently plying their trade in top-flight football, it is the Basque club Athletic Bilbao who keep hold of their products better than anyone else.
This should come as no surprise as the club still rely exclusively on players who have family links to the Basque region.
It is for this reason that Bilbao take their youth system very seriously. During a club poll, 91% of their fans voted to say that they would rather see the club relegated than have a team full of non-home-grown players.
Below is a full list of statistics showing which clubs in Europe produce the most youngsters and which teams successfully managed to keep their home-grown players at their club.
