Former Manchester City defender Stefan Savic has urged countryman Stevan Jovetic to snub his other big name suitors and join Manchester City in the summer.

Jovetic has emerged as a target for a number of leading European clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.

The Gunners have emerged as serious contenders for the Montenegrin in recent weeks, and are said to be preparing a summer bid to take him to the Emirates Stadium.

Jovetic himself said he shared a great "affinity" with Arsenal earlier this week, although Fiorentina team-mate Luca Toni urged him to snub the north London club in search of a bigger move.

Now Savic, who left Manchester City to join Fiorentina after a season at the Etihad Stadium last summer, has weighed into the debate and urged Jovetic to join to his former club.

"Jovetic is one of my closest friends and I would recommend City to him," the defender told The Sun.

“They are a rising team, one of the best clubs in Europe. They will win trophies and be in the Champions League every year.”

Savic left Manchester City in order to find more regular first team football, and was used as part of the deal for Matija Nastasic to Manchester.

Despite his own struggles at the Etihad Stadium, Savic believes Jovetic is far better equipped to succeed with the reigning Premier League champions.

He said: “It was hard for me there because I came straight from the Serbian league. I won a league title but knew I had to play regularly to improve, so I left — it was my decision.

“It is different for Stevan. He has five years’ experience and could play straight away with Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.”
