With so many outstanding individual performances this season, it seems only EA Sports' Player Performance Index is qualified to rank the Premier League's players in order.

The index takes into account players' performance, appearances, goals scored, assists, clean sheets, and number of winning performances - but who is currently the best?

10. Steven Gerrard | Liverpool

The Liverpool captain has played in every single minute of the Reds' campaign this term, and has netted eight times while also providing 13 assists.

9. Wayne Rooney | Manchester United

Despite facing criticism this year Wayne Rooney has still achieved the highest average index score per game, which suggests if he played every match he would be at number one in our list. Food for thought, Sir Alex Ferguson?

8. Marouane Fellaini | Everton

The big Belgian has bullied opposition defences this year with his uncompromising playing style, scoring 11 goals and assisting seven times in an unfamiliar role further forward.

7. Leighton Baines | Everton

The honest Englishman has earned many admirers this season with his simple yet effective approach. He has five goals and six assists to his name, which is more than respectable for a defender.

6. Eden Hazard | Chelsea

Many have said that Eden Hazard has failed to live up to the euphoria that surrounded his transfer last summer, but a return of eight goals and 13 assists begs to differ.

5. Patrice Evra | Manchester United

Amazingly the Frenchman is ranked above the likes of Santi Cazorla, Carlos Tevez and David Silva, sitting pretty in fifth thanks to four goals, six assists and many more clean sheets.

4. Luis Suarez | Liverpool

Suarez has scored an incredible 39% of Liverpool's goals in the league so far this season, and when this is added to his eight assists, he is surely indispensable to this current Liverpool team.

3. Gareth Bale | Tottenham Hotspur

Somewhat surprisingly, Gareth Bale has to settle for third, mainly thanks to his 16 goals. But his assists tally could do with some work if he wants to challenge the top two, as his number currently stands at a stingy five.

2. Juan Mata | Chelsea

The Spanish wizard has been the creative spark and the goal-poacher that Chelsea so desperately need. To be involved in a total of 23 goals as a midfielder is impressive and, what's more, his goals have been important - like his decisive strike against Arsenal in January.

1. Robin van Persie | Manchester United

No prizes for guessing who our leader is and, with a lead of almost one hundred index points, he looks set to maintain his crown until the end of the season to win for a second year in a row. Even though his recent form has been poor, he has still scored 19 times, and provided assists for 12 more goals.
