One of the questions always asked about Manchester United is how their great teams of the past compare to the teams of the present.

Sir Alex Ferguson himself recently claimed his current crop of strikers to be superior to those that won the historic treble in 1999.

Gambling website bwin decided they would put the Manchester United boss’ claim to the test by inviting current Old Trafford star Wayne Rooney and his strike partners to challenge club legends Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.

Cole and Yorke were a formidable strike pairing and their interplay was so intricate that many commenters labelled it almost telepathic – which is exactly what was tested in the hilarious video above.

Rooney was joined by teammates Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck in representing the Class of 2013 as they tried to outdo the greats from the Class of 1999.

Telepathy is not the easiest thing to gauge so the organisers came up with the best way they could to test it – blinding the Manchester United stars.

Rooney and Chicharito were made to wear blindfolds while they completed a passing drill and the usually poised pairing were quite picture as they attempted to judge where the ball was travelling – the England striker took a hit to the chin when trying to control the ball on his knee.

However, the funniest moments came from the crossing drills; Andy Cole somehow managed to redirect Yorke’s header into the goal – Rooney was not quite so lucky when Welbeck’s cross almost hit him flush on the nose.

The 27-year-old is not one to shirk a challenge, however, and told Welbeck he wanted to attempt one of the acrobatic volleys he is renowned for.

The first attempt was a full on scissors kick and the others fell about laughing, as all he connected with was air.

Rooney showed his quality in the end when he somehow buried a volley into the top corner.
