Arsenal are set to step up their interest in Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio with an £8.4m bid for the Sporting Lisbon star. But the Portuguese club are believed to be holding out for something closer to £12m. [Daily Express]

Manchester United’s David De Gea and Chelsea’s on-loan stopper Thibaut Courtois top Barcelona’s three-man goalkeeping shortlist. The Catalan club also like the look of Valencia keeper Vicente Guaita but Liverpool star Pepe Reina and Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer have been chopped from the club's summer transfer wishlist. Roberto Mancini has told club captain Vincent Kompany to get his priorities straight after the City defender played for Belgium in mid-week. Kompany has been out for the past two months with a calf problem but returned for his national team on Tuesday. [Manchester Evening News]

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard wants Jose Mourinho to return to Stamford Bridge so he can work under the Portuguese manager as a coach. Lampard wants a ‘Manchester United-style’ agreement, similar to what Ryan Giggs plans to do at Old Trafford, whereby he ends his playing career at Stamford Bridge before becoming a coach at the club.
