Despite Chelsea collecting an impressive amount of titles in his absence Jose Mourinho is the only manager that has ever filled the club’s owner Roman Abramovic and fans with complete confidence.

Now, after a short but successful stint at Real Madrid, Mourinho has been linked back to the London club, in what would be a truly sensational return. The move would undoubtedly gain the approval of most Chelsea fans, but should they be so quick to take him back?

Mourinho has established himself as one of the best managers in the world, and is renowned for his tactical understanding of the game, although he is also known for his short stays. The west-London side will almost certainly be looking for a long-term appointment, but if the Portuguese tactician treats a return as another project, Chelsea could find themselves without a manager in four-years time.

Youth development and squad management are two more areas that might concern Chelsea if Mourinho’s stay is short lived.

Whilst he reportedly maintains a strong relationship with his players, the club will be looking for someone who can see out the growth of their young talent, and a project like this would most likely take longer than four seasons.

It is clear that the club craves consistency, and in terms of performances, that is exactly what Mourinho can supply. Under his control, Chelsea became notorious for grabbing 1-0 victories – subsequently being labelled ‘boring’ – but that is a title their fans would gladly welcome back after witnessing their league standing stoop in recent years. Chelsea’s urge to regain formidable status serves as the club’s greatest reason to bring back 'The Special One'.
