Chelsea & Arsenal transfer news: Chelsea want Christian Eriksen to replace Frank Lampard
Chelsea and Arsenal have reportedly joined Liverpool in pursuit of Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen, and the Blues want the young Dane to succeed Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.
According to the Daily Star, all three Premier League clubs are chasing Eriksen and moves could be forthcoming from each of the trio during the summer transfer window, which opens in July.
Liverpool had initially appeared to be the frontrunners to sign Eriksen after Ajax director fof football Marc Overmars claimed Brendan Rodgers was interested in bringing the 21-year-old to Anfield.
Arsenal, however, have not been discounted in the race to sign the Denmark international, with the connections former Gunners stars Overmars and Ajax coach Dennis Bergkamp have to the Emirates Stadium club potentially a key factor in Eriksen's decision.
Chelsea, meanwhile, can count on their sizable financial clout to place themselves very much in the running to claim the signature of Eriksen, and the youngster is reported to have been identified as a replacement for Lampard.
The 34-year-old midfield veteran is out of contract at the end of the season and, as of yet, it is unclear if the Chelsea legend will be offered the chance to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
Erkisen has also been linked with Manchester United in the past, and has been touted as a potential replacement for Paul Scholes, who is likely to bring an end to his Old Trafford career at the end of the season.
