Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has denied making an approach for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
The Ligue 1 giants have spent big since the arrival of the Qatar Investment Authority, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lucas Moura and Javier Pastore three big-name arrivals at the club.
And, Al-Khelaifi is happy to be linked with more ‘superstars’, admitting it wasn’t the case when the Qatar Investment Authority took over at the Parc des Princes.
However, the 39-year-old said that whilst Rooney is a great player, an approach has never been made for the England international’s signature.
"Thankfully there is a lot of players really interested in the club, this was not the case when we bought the club," Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports.
"He (Rooney) is a great player, he is one of the best strikers in the world. I think everyone would like to have him but if you want to talk about the fact, we didn't approach him."
Al-Khelaifi also spoke on the possible appointment of Arsene Wenger, but played down the chances of the Arsenal chief joining the French league leaders.
"Arsene Wenger is a great manager and has done a great job with Arsenal," he added.
"But he has a contract for another year I believe I heard in the media and so he is I think staying in Arsenal but I cannot talk on his behalf, I don't know what he will decide but we have Carlo and we are very satisfied with Carlo Ancelotti."
The president insisted the club’s owners will continue to invest in talent, with the aim to become one of the top five clubs in European football.
"We invest some money in the club, but we have to if we want to be in the top five clubs in Europe, we have to invest," Al-Khelaifi concluded.
PSG will get the opportunity to prove their progression in the Champions League tomorrow night, with their clash against Barcelona the pick of the quarter-final ties.
