Ajax coach flattered by Manchester City link
Manchester City news: Ajax boss Frank de Boer could replace Roberto Mancini at the Etihad Stadium
Speculation is mounting that the 42-year-old is being lined up as a long-term successor to Roberto Mancini, and could replace the Italian at the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.
Manchester City's title defence has imploded this year as they sit 15 points adrift of leaders Manchester United with just seven games remaining. Add to that, the fact that the Citizens failed to make it beyond the Champions League group stages for the second consecutive season, and it's clear to see why Mancini is under increasing pressure.
Dutch legend De Boer is quickly building a reputation as one of the brightest young managers in Europe, with his Ajax side currently sitting three points clear of PSV Eindhoven at the top of the Eredivisie table.
But, if rumours are true that Manchester City officials are planning an approach for the former Barcelona star, then he has not been made aware of any interest.
"It's flattering, but I haven't heard anything [from Manchester City]," said De Boer. "That says I'm not a bad manager, in any case."
Responding to reports of growing unrest at the Amsterdam Arena due to the club's frustrating transfer policy, De Boer added: "I'm very happy with how it goes here [at Ajax].
"I know you can't just get players so I stand by the club's policies."
