Patrice Evra disappointed after Manchester United miss out on Double
Manchester United news: Patrice Evra gutted after FA Cup defeat to Chelsea
Patrice Evra was left frustrated by Manchester United's FA Cup failure once again as the Premier League leaders missed the chance to complete the Double after falling to defeat to Chelsea in their quarter-final replay on Sunday.
Demba Ba scored the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge, lifting the ball expertly over David de Gea from a Juan Mata pass, to send Chelsea to Wembley and leave Manchester United to concentrate solely on the league.
The Premier League title looks very much in the bag for Manchester United, with the Red Devils 15 points clear of Manchester City with eight games remaining, but an FA Cup triumph would have added the gloss to another successful campaign.
Manchester United have not won the FA Cup since 2004, leaving some of their stars needing just one medal to complete their already impressive collection, with Evra in particular desperate to win the historic competition.
"It's a massive disappointment for us," Evra told the official Manchester United website. "We didn't expect to lose and we really wanted to win the Double.
"A lot of players, including myself, haven't won the FA Cup and it was an important trophy for us."
Evra lamented Manchester United's collapses in the initial encounter with Chelsea, during which the Blues fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2, as the reason for their failure to win the FA Cup once again.
“I think we lost the tie in the first match,” he added. “We have to be realistic with ourselves - we gave the first game away. We were winning 2-0, they came back from 2-0 down and we drew 2-2. After that we had another chance to win at Stamford Bridge but Chelsea deserved to go through.”
