Lambert hopes for New Zealand call

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert is still waiting for his first international call-up, and continues to be overlooked by Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson, despite being comfortably the highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League this season with 14 goals.

Yesterday, Saints' official website ran a story saying that the 31-year-old had decided to apply for citizenship in New Zealand, declaring himself eligible to play for the All Whites, in an attempt to realise his dream of playing at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Hours later, it emerged the news was nothing more than a pre-planned prank created by player and club, so let's hope Hodgson wasn't taken in by the hoax, and hands the Liverpudlian the England recognition he deserves.
