Sir Alex Ferguson becomes honorary president of Referee's Association

For all that Sir Alex Ferguson has achieved in the game, there is no excusing some of his famously critical rants at match officials. 

From referees to linesmen, and even fourth officials, there is no escaping the Manchester United manager when he's looking for someone to vilify, and blame when his side produces an under-par performance, or poor result.

So, in 2011, when The Sun ran a tongue-in-cheek story to suggest that the now 71-year-old Scot had been made the honorary life president of the Referees' Association, anyone who fell for that deserved to be ridiculed to the end of time.
