Gordon Banks - England 0-1 Brazil

Gordon Banks had a long and distinguished career for club and country, during which time he made over 700 appearances and helped England clinch World Cup glory, but the former Stoke City No.1 is remembered by many for one save only.

Brazil's team in 1970, inspired by Pele, were unstoppable in their pomp that summer, but Banks was able to prove the World Cup winners were human with a sensational stop from arguably the greatest player ever.

Banks appeared to have no chance of even getting to a powerful header from Pele, but the England 'keeper was able to push the ball over the crossbar when it seemed impossible to do so.

"Wherever I go people bring [the save] up all the time," Banks said earlier this year.

"After all these years I cannot believe people still talk about it.

"Even kids. I get letters from kids in China. Even they're talking about it."
