Didier Drogba has claimed Chelsea need to bring Jose Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge as they have unfinished business and admitted he would be open to joining his old boss.
The Blues legend was speaking ahead of a the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg where he will be going up against Mourinho’s Real Madrid side with current club Galatasaray.
There have been reports suggesting Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is keen for a reunion with the man that brought him his initial success after buying the west London club.
Drogba feels both Mourinho and Abramovich haven’t moved on after they parted ways 2007.
The Ivory Coast star also believes Mourinho is the perfect man to continue the rebuilding process currently underway at Chelsea.
35-year-old told reporters.“If he [Abramovich] is thinking about bringing him [Mourinho] back he has his reasons,” the
“I don’t think he has got over Chelsea and they haven’t got over him.
“Jose needs to come back. He is a winner; he is close to the players. He went to Inter and is now at Real Madrid but he is still talking about Chelsea so he loves this club.
“The fans want him back. I think for the club it is the best solution to bring Jose back because you want to rebuild a team and to give them the strength we had before.”
Drogba became a Chelsea legend when he almost single-handedly dragged the Blues to an unlikely Champions League victory last season.
The powerful striker feels Mourinho’s failure to win that particular prize could be something to do with a desire to return.
Not only did Drogba think a Chelsea return for Mourinho was a good idea, he also opened the door to a return himself.
“When he came he brought success and the only thing he didn’t win was the Champions League,” he added.
“Maybe that is one of the reasons why he might want to come back. It is unfinished business.
“Let me finish at Galatasaray first and then we will talk about that [Chelsea return]. It would be nice, not just coaching but to help the club.
“I gave everything for that club and of course they gave it back to me.”
