AC Milan and Inter Milan both have some fantastic players in their squads, but who will make it into the combined Milan XI.

The formation used will be 4-2-3-1.

Goalkeeper: Samir Handanovic | Inter Milan

The Slovenian keeper joined Inter Milan from Udinese in July 2012. The keeper was known well in Italy for his great all-round skills as a keeper and has really excelled after replacing Júlio César.

Left-back: Yuto Nagatomo | Inter Milan

The Japanese full-back joined the club in 2011 from Cesena and has narrowly pushed out competition from Milan left back Cristian Zapata, who is making a name for himself after joining from Villarreal. The Japan international has the ability to dominate the left flank, running up the wing while still being able to cover his position.

Centre-back: Philippe Mexès | AC Milan

The centre-back from Tolosa has made 24 appearances this season and has really made a name for himself in the Serie A world. Before coming to Milan he was at Roma and has pushed out competition at Milan from Mario Yepes, who is also a very strong defender.

Centre-back: Walter Samuel | Inter Milan

The Argentinian centre-back towers above most players with a height of 183cm and has often been referred to as a brick wall due to the high amount of clean sheets when he plays.

Right-back: Ignazio Abate | AC Milan

The former Torino player has become a fan favourite with the Tifosi after showing himself as a versatile player with a lot of pace. He can play in centre-back, right-back and right-midfield. The Italian player has gained himself a place in the Italy squad by putting some fine performances in with AC.

Defensive midfield: Javier Zanetti | Inter Milan

The veteran Inter player, who has been at the club since 1995, has established himself in many positions including full-back and centre-back. The Inter captain has also played in 145 games for his country, Argentina.

Defensive midfield: Antonio Nocerino | AC Milan

The holding midfielder from Naples has played for many clubs in his career including Milan, Genoa, Juventus and Palermo, who he signed from in 2011. He has made 71 appearances for the club scoring 11 goals.

Attacking midfield: Kevin Prince-Boateng | AC Milan

The German-Ghanain midfielder, who has played for both countries in his lifetime, has made an instant impact at Milan after joining from cash-strapped Portsmouth in 2010. Since then he has made 92 appearances scoring 15 goals.

Attacking midfield: Stephan El Shaarawy | AC Milan

The attacking player has scored 23 times in 65 appearances, however he is one of the top scorer's in the Serie A this season with 19 goals. He would normally play on the left wing however he has the ability to play in a more central role as well.

Attacking midfield: Rodrigo Palacio | Inter Milan

The Argentinian forward has established himself as a winger and a striker after scoring 20 goals in just 37 appearances. Arguably a winger, but with the best goalscoring record this season as a striker, it is hard not to think of him in a more central role.

Striker: Mario Balotelli | AC Milan

The former Inter striker has made an instant impact at the club after recently joining from Manchester City by scoring seven goals in six games, leaving the Manchester side who sold him red faced. The Italian striker was born in Palermo and supported AC Milan as a child.
