Brede Hangeland targets top ten finish at Fulham

Fulham defender Brede Hangeland believes his team should be focusing on a top ten finish in the league this season.

The Norwegian defender feels that the west London club can now focus on a half of the table after effectively securing their safety in the Premier League, thanks to their 3-2 victory over capital rivals Queens Park Rangers on Monday night.

The Cottagers are on a strong run of form, and centre back Hangeland is confident they can maintain this for the rest of the season.

"Hopefully now we can sleep well at night, knowing we will be in the league next year and look up a little bit," the Fulham captain said, according to Sky Sports.

"It is so tight and if it hadn't been for this really good run recently we could have been in trouble, but luckily we seemed to turn the corner after the New Year."

The defender did however admit that Monday’s victory didn’t go completely to plan, and that he was relieved when the final whistle went due to the Hoops pulling two goals back and missing a penalty.

"I was almost disappointed after the game because we controlled it so well in the first half and controlled it really well," Hangeland added.

"The second half was the complete opposite so it was a bit strange but obviously we're delighted to get the three points."

Fulham, who will now consider themselves safe from the drop, can in-fact leapfrog Swansea City and move into ninth place in the table if they win their game in hand.
