Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben believes Toni Kroos injury will benefit him
Bayern Munich news: Arjen Robben hopes to play a more prominent part following Toni Kroos' injury
Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben believes that the injury suffered by Toni Kroos will benefit him.
The Netherlands international is hoping that the injury for Kroos - picked up during their 2-0 win over Juventus on Tuesday - will allow him to feature more and get more first-team football for the remainder of the season.
The 29-year-old replaced the German after he fell foul of a hip injury which forced him off the pitch, and now Robben will be looking to turn his frustration around and gain more playing time as part of the starting line-up.
The attacker does acknowledge that the injury is not good for Kroos, but cant help viewing the situation more selfishly and hoping he will play a more prominent part in the Bundesliga leaders' near future.
"It does not look so good for Kroos, but then that is better for me. It happens in football," Robben told NOS.
"I was sick that I had to start on the bench. On Saturday I played a great game (in the 9-2 victory over Hamburg) and I wanted to continue that form, but the coach decided otherwise. I ended up playing tonight so I have to be happy."
Despite the 2-0 victory over the Italian side in their Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Allianz Arena, the Dutchmen claims the tie is far from over and hope the missed opportunities don't come back to haunt the German outfit.
"Of course it is far from over, but we have made a great step towards the semi-finals," he added.
"We have had opportunities to expand the score, but the important thing is that we have given our all and kept a clean sheet."
