Southampton & Norwich in transfer tussle over League One star
Walsall transfer news: Will Grigg could be set for a summer transfer to the Premier League
Walsall striker Will Grigg has been attracting interest from an array of Premier League and Championship clubs, according to reports.
Norwich and Southampton are said to have sent scouts to watch Grigg in action, who is currently third top scorer in League One with a superb return of 18 goals.
Grigg is on the brink of becoming the first player to score 20 goals in a season for the Saddlers since Jorge Leitao reached the milestone 12 years ago.
The 21-year-old has been an ever-present figure in the Northern Ireland set-up, playing for the Under-19s and Under-21s, and has also made two appearances for the senior side.
His impressive knack of scoring goals has caught the eye of many scouts, and he is proving to be a standout performer in the third tier of English football.
However, Grigg is not letting the interest from bigger clubs get to him and remains focussed on helping Walsall achieve their aims by winning promotion to the Championship.
Grigg's agent, Dan Wood of The Endgame Group, told SkySports: "It is understandable that Will has caught the eye with his performances this season, but all he is focusing on is playing well for Walsall, and continuing the club's push for promotion."
Grigg is out of contract at the end of the season, but the player's agent hasn't ruled out the sought-after striker staying with the Saddlers beyond his current deal.
"We are having discussions with Walsall, and those talks will continue," Wood added.
Walsall teammate Jamie Paterson isn't surprised to see Grigg catching the eye of teams further up the football pyramid. Speaking to the Express & Star, Patterson said: "There’s no reason why he can’t go and be top scorer in the league.
"The way we get forward and create, he’s always going to get chances.
"Lately he’s been putting them away. He works for his own goals as well. You might not see it from the sides, but he chases every ball down and makes a lot of chances.
"He’ll go on to bigger and better things."
