Five of the Greatest: Premier League games (1)

Published 7 Comments

It may not feel like so long ago, but 17 years have passed since one of the most remarkable, and memorable games in Premier League history.

Yep, it was on this day in 1996 that Liverpool beat Newcastle 4-3, in game that seemed to define the early years of the Premier League and its bid to become more than a game, but a form of entertainment that could be sold around the world.

To mark this auspicious anniversary we thought it would only be fitting to put together a list of the most thrilling, dramatic games in Premier League history.

These are our top five most dramatic games, but feel free to leave your own suggestions below!

NB: Manchester United's 8-2 win over Arsenal or Manchester City's 6-1 win over the Red Devils don't feature because they don't fit the bill in terms of sheer drama - generally speaking the result was decided before the end and while particularly memorable, they weren't quite what we were looking for in terms of drama like the original Liverpool v Newcastle game.
