Zlatan Ibrahimovic has urged Wayne Rooney to join him at Paris Saint-Germain and become “part of the best project in football”.
Speculation surrounding the Manchester United’s star’s future has included links with a switch to the French capital this summer.
Now PSG superstar Ibrahimovic claims the Old Trafford favourite is in the top ten of strikers in world football and believes signing him from Manchester United would only aid their quest for European dominance.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson recently dismissed the notion of Rooney leaving the club in the summer but the lure of the wealthy Paris club may change this.
“If he wants to be part of the best project in football then there is only one club to sign for,” the former Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan man is quoted as saying in The Sun.
“Only he knows the decision he is going to make in the summer but the project we are trying to build here is clear.
“We are not content with being the dominant force in France, we want to be the top club in Europe as well.
“I can understand why the owners are interested in Rooney — he is in the top 10 of strikers in Europe.
As the report says, Qatari-owned PSG are one of the few clubs that could afford Rooney’s reported £200,000-a-week wages, should he decide to depart Old Trafford.
He has fallen behind summer signing and top scorer Robin van Persie in the pecking order at Manchester United this season owing to the Dutchman’s sparkling form, which could have a bearing on his decision.
However, this may not differ very much if he were to move to the Parc des Princes, such are the stellar names already having been signed by PSG.
Should Rooney decide to make the move, he would join former Manchester United star and England teammate David Beckham whom joined PSG in January.
