Lionel Messi could make Barcelona return against PSG
Barcelona hoping Lionel Messi will return from injury against PSG in Champions League
Barcelona have revealed that forward Lionel Messi could be fit for the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain next week.
The Argentine international opened the scoring in the first leg at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night, but was forced off at half-time in a game that finished 2-2.
Initial fears were that the hamstring injury could see Messi miss several weeks of action, but the Catalan giants have revealed that this weekend’s match against Mallorca is the only clash he’ll definitely sit out.
“The club’s medical services have revealed that Messi’s hamstring injury will definitely rule him out of this weekend’s game against Mallorca,” read a statement on the Barcelona website.
“His availability after that will depend on how the injury progresses.”
Messi had earlier looked to allay fears over the severity of the injury himself, taking to Facebook to tell fans he would return soon, and that the injury wasn’t serious.
“I will return soon. Thankfully it was not so serious,” wrote the 25-year-old.
Messi has enjoyed another sensational season at the Nou Camp this term, scoring against every La Liga opponent during the campaign.
However, his run of scoring in 19 consecutive league games is set to come to an end when he sits out the match against Gregorio Manzano’s side on Saturday night.
