Manchester United and Liverpool have been invited to challenge AC Milan and make a bid for highly-rated defender Dede.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool were credited with an interest in the Brazilian recently and will have been encouraged by the latest comments coming out of his club, Vasco da Gama.
Roberto Dinamite, the Vasco president, admitted to hearing about rumours linking AC Milan with a bid and indicated he was willing to listen – something that would interest Sir Alex Ferguson and Brendan Rodgers.
he is quoted as saying by Brazilian publication Lancenet“I read that too (the AC Milan interest), but is more journalistic news than hard fact,” .
“There is nothing official has come to us. Without it, you cannot open negotiations.
“We must do what is best for Vasco and what is best for the player himself.
“There is a price. You need to see if Milan intends to reach that number, then we talk.
“Of course, the player likes Milan and the club has a great charm. The player can perform very well in Italy and has a potential of great quality.
“Let's see if we got a great proposal; obviously, it must be in the interest of the player and Vasco.”
Dede is a tall and powerful centre-back but has good technique, which could make him ideal for Premier League.
Manchester United’s interest could be seen as planning for the long-term as senior defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are both nearing the latter stages of their careers and both have injury concerns.
Liverpool will be searching for a new recruit for the centre of defence as Jamie Carragher announced he would be retiring at the end of this season.
