Premier League preview: 6th-8th April

This weekend’s Premier League matches offer a number of intriguing clashes, with teams at both ends of the table desperate for wins.

On Saturday, Reading host Southampton in the early kick-off, with Nigel Adkins desperate for revenge against his old side.

Mauricio Pocettino has guided the Saints towards a solid mid-table finish, but more wins are needed to avoid a nervy finish to the season – especially with their shaky defence.

Norwich host Swansea in a game that Chris Hughton’s side would love to win, whilst the Swans are handily placed away from the danger zone but not close enough to challenge for the top six.

Stoke are on a poor run of form and need to snap out of it against Aston Villa, as defeat to Paul Lambert’s side would put them firmly in the relegation mix.

And, concluding Saturday’s action, Arsenal travel to West Bromwich Albion chasing a victory that would move them into the top four – for 24 hours at least.

On Sunday, Liverpool host West Ham in the day’s early kick-off, with Andy Carroll sitting out for the away team against his parent club.

Spurs host Everton in a pivotal top four battle, with the Toffees hoping to not lose touch in the race for a Champions League place.

Paolo Di Canio’s first game in charge of Sunderland is an away trip to Chelsea, with both teams needing points for different reasons.

Newcastle host Fulham knowing they are far from safe, before QPR and Wigan clash in a relegation dogfight. Harry Redknapp knows time is running out to save the Hoops.

Then, on Monday night, league leaders Manchester United meet champions Manchester City, with Roberto Mancini’s side looking to put a dent in the 15-point advantage currently held by Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

The Red Devils won 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the campaign, and a win at Old Trafford would all-but secure the title.
