Top 5: Highest average attendances in Europe (1)

Published 2 Comments

Three Premier League clubs make it into the latest updated edition of the best supported clubs in Europe.

German publication has compiled last month's average attendance figures from across Europe's top-flight clubs, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle all cracking the top 10.

But none of the trio top the bill - that honour goes to Borussia Dortmund. The reigning Bundesliga champions may trail Bayern Munich by a massive 20-point margin in the title race, but Jurgen Klopp's side boast fanatical support - a massive 80,451 spectators per week travel to watch his side play at home.

The Bundesliga is often cited as the most supporter friendly league in the world, and the German fans certainly turn out in their numbers. Four of Europe's top 10 and eight of the top 20 hail from Germany, a higher total than any other league.

Spain's El Clasico dominance is once again evident - Barcelona and Real Madrid both make the top five highest average attendances.

But you have to go all the way down to number 23 to find the next highest Spanish outfit, Atletico Madrid with a 42,607 average. That's less than Eintracht Frankfurt, Celtic and Scottish Division Three's Glasgow Rangers.

Premier League interest outside the top 10 includes Manchester City at number 13 with an average attendance of 47,000, Liverpool at 19 with 44,695 and despite the Rafa Benitez backlash, Chelsea enter the picture at number 25 with 41,409.

Let's check out the top 5. Click the arrows at the bottom of the article to count down through the slideshow all the way to number one!
