Top 10: Calamity crossers in the Premier League (1)

The ability to cross is a fundamental attribute needed for any Premier League wide-man, whether it's a forward thinking full-back or a wily winger.

In fact, when any player fails to beat the first opponent as they try to whip a ball into the danger zone - irrespective of whether it's from a set piece or open play - it's up there with the greatest causes of frustration for fans of clubs up and down the country.

If Sunderland's relegation fears are reason enough for supporters at the Stadium of Light to moan incessantly, then Adam Johnson's unwanted statistic as the worst crosser in the Premier League this season might prove to be the tipping point for the Black Cats faithful.

Johnson will have to improve on his current success rate of nine per cent if Paolo Di Canio's side are to avoid the drop this year, with the former Manchester City and Middlesbrough star topping the pile of calamity crossers.

Fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers and Wigan Athletic are also well represented in the featured top 10, but it's not just sides at the bottom who are guilty of wasteful wing play.

Arsenal have no less than three players that need to significantly brush up on their skills in that area, but perhaps the most surprising inclusion is Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale - who still has some flaws in his game, despite a stand-out campaign at White Hart Lane this year.
