Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has insisted that a second-placed finish in the league and an FA Cup trophy win will be seen as a successful season.

The current Premier League champions are 15 points behind their rivals Manchester United who have been in imperious form recently and have not lost in their last 18 matches.

United won the corresponding fixture in the league this season after a dramatic game at the Etihad Stadium when Robin van Persie's late free-kick sealed victory for the 19 times league champions.

The Citizens plunged out of the Champions League at the group stage and would have hoped this would mean they could concentrate on the league, but have failed to keep tabs on the runaway leaders.

The England stopper has called upon his teammates to forget what has happened and learn from their disappointing moments this term and 'keep moving forward'.

"We've got to look to win our last seven games and two in the cup," he told Football Focus.

"That has to be seen as successful.

"You have to keep re-evaluating the season.

"We have had disappointments in the league and Champions League but you have to move forward and appreciate it's not all set up for us.

"We have to keep moving forward and learning."

Hart has also noted how important the match on Monday is and insists they play for the pride of their fans in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

He added: "It is a cliche but we play for our fans, and for ourselves. It looks like the title is not going our way but we have a lot to play for.

"We are looking for three points and to get as big a tally as we can."
