Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen has been linked with some of Europe's finest for years, but a transfer seems closer than ever.
With Eriksen continuing to impress at the Amsterdam Arena, the Denmark international has attracted admiring glances from, amongst others, Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool according to recent reports.
Liverpool have been scouting the 21-year-old star on a regular basis over the last couple of seasons, and Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars confirmed as much in a recent interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
And Liverpool have emerged as favourites to sign Eriksen. With 12 months remaining on his current contract and a refusal to sign a new one, it looks like this season could be Eriksen's last in Holland, as he considers a switch to the Premier League.
With 10 goals and 17 assists in 39 appearances this season alone, Eriksen has shown he has the potential to develop into a world-class player. He would fit into Liverpool's new strategy of purchasing young, versatile and energetic players with the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho recently joining the Liverpool ranks. With 34 appearances for Denmark, he is an established player at international level, despite his tender years.
Eriksen would be a great addition to Liverpool in many ways. He is able to play the ball with both feet, has a good eye for a pass and has the ability to win games single-handedly. He is fast and has good pace, is not afraid to players on and would compliment the likes of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard perfectly.
Of course, it will not be easy for Liverpool win the race for his signature, with a host of clubs likely to enter into a bidding war should Eriksen become available. However, Liverpool have a strong advantage in negotiations as they will be able to offer him a regular role in the first-team whereas he wouldn't be guaranteed the same elsewhere.
If Eriksen does make the move to the Premier League and emulates the success former team mate Suarez has had after making a similar move, Liverpool will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the coming season as their players mature and bond as a team.
Here is a short snippet of what Liverpool fans can expect should the Danish international make a move at the end of the season. Would Eriksen be a good signing for Liverpool? Get in touch and have your say.
