Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants midfielder Tomas Rosicky to stay with the Gunners and not to quit in the summer.

The Czech Republic midfielder has only one year remaining on his current contract and has appeared just five times in the Premier League this year.

Despite being only his second start of the season, Rosicky put in a man-of-the-match display against West Brom, scoring both Arsenal’s goals as well as clearing a header off of the line with the score at 0-0.

Wenger has now stated his desire to keep the 32-year-old at the club for the remainder of his playing career.

Speaking to reporters after the match he said: "I thought he was fantastic today. He's not a player I want to lose. I rate him very highly.

"He has a year left on his current contract but I would love him to stay and finish his career with us.

"Although he's had a difficult season, he always seems to come in and give the team a lift, especially at the end of the season, he's really a quality player."

Rosicky’s contribution proved vital to the win as Arsenal narrowly left the Hawthorns with a 2-1 win. The task was made more difficult when Per Mertesacker was sent of for a professional foul on Shane Long.

Wenger said: "I have no complaints about the penalty, it was a professional foul and Mertesacker was the last man, this meant though that you saw two sides of our game today.

"On one side you saw our technical control and quality, and the other our fighting spirit - something not normally associated with us.

"The most important thing was that we won the game, everyone is looking at the results of the other teams, but I’ve told our players not to, and concentrate on winning our games.

"If we do that, we don't need to worry about Chelsea or Tottenham and what they do.

"We are now in the top four and I am confident we will stay there.

"It was three massive points today; we have now taken 22 from a possible 27.

"It will be a tight finish, I think it will go all the way to the end of the season, but we are ready for the fight."
