Manchester United and Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their chase for prolific Turkish striker Burak Yilmaz.
The Galatasaray man, whom has reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and his Liverpool counterpart Brendan Rodgers, is open to snubbing them both for La Liga.
Yilmaz’s agent, Ali Egesel, admitted his client’s form had not gone unnoticed around Europe and said interest out of Atletico Madrid was an attractive prospect.
“We know that Atletico are interested. Burak knows that they are a big team," he told Spanish newspaper AS.
“For him, La Liga is the best competition in the world and Atletico are in the top three.”
Manchester United and Liverpool may be chasing the 27-year-old but they will have some serious competition for his signature.
As Yilmaz’s agent revealed the Vicente Calderon outfit had a secret weapon in any negotiations – an international teammate.
“Arda Turan has been telling him about the club and says some very positive things,” Egesel added.
One reason for Atletico interest in Yilmaz is likely to be the continued speculation over the future of Radamel Falcao, with the Colombian hitman tipped to leave in the summer.
Interest in the Gala man from Manchester United and Liverpool is understandable, as he has already scored 18 times in 24 matches – though his current scoring rate is slower than his 33 in 34 from last season.
