Hazard backs under-fire Fernando Torres
Chelsea news: Despite criticism, Eden Hazard is impressed by Fernando Torres
Another week and another return to form for Chelsea forward Fernando Torres.
The Spaniard bagged two goals against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday and made an immediate impact when coming off the bench to replace Demba Ba at half-time against Sunderland on Sunday, helping his side come from behind to win 2-1.
El Nino has struggled to find his best form since his shock £50million transfer to Chelsea but is the Blues top scorer so far this term with 19 goals in all competitions and teammate Eden Hazard has been quick to defend the often under-fire striker:
Hazard told reporters: "[Torres] must be one of the most criticised football players in the world, yet he keeps the good work going. I’m impressed."
The Belgian who has settled well following his own £32million move to Stamford Bridge in the summer was full of praise for Torres and his new strike partner Demba Ba:
"People expect 10 goals from him every game.
“We are lucky to have two top-class forwards with him and Demba Ba. We must make the most of them."
Whether or not Torres can keep up this mini-burst of form and turn it into something more consistent waits to be seen but with Ba and Romelu Lukaku for company next year he’ll be under even more pressure for the starting role at Stamford Bridge.
However, if the Spanish international can fire Chelsea to a Europa League and FA Cup double and add that to a top four Premier League finish - then he will go some way in turning his Stamford Bridge career around.
