Chelsea are be no means assured of a top-four finish this season, and Rafael Benitez will be to blame if the Blues fail to secure Champions League football.

Since the Spaniard was appointed interim manager, he hasn't been welcomed with open arms, while results and performances haven't done anything to stop the abuse. It doesn't seem as if Benitez knows what to do. Chants of "You don't know what you're doing" were ringing around Southampton's St. Mary's ground at the end of last month, after he took off Oscar to bring on Yossi Benayoun when needing a goal, with Demba Ba sitting on the bench.

Ever since taking the reins at Chelsea, it seems that the Spaniard cannot change a game for the better. With other managers, Chelsea have had more than one plan and can get through defences in more than one way. However, subs that are made by Rafa show that he only has a Plan 'A'. He will bring off Oscar and put on Victor Moses in the same place and therefore keep the same style of football.

He also doesn't change the way they play the ball into Fernando Torres. With Chelsea's No. 9 not performing to his potential, Benitez was brought in to bring the best out in the £50m man. However, it seems as if Benitez has got Chelsea pumping long balls to him and Ba when he plays.

The result is the same: with both strikers they win the ball but there is no one about to pounce on the loose ball. It has been evident in recent matches that Torres works off of balls played through and to him, instead of in his general direction.

In conclusion, it doesn't seem as though Benitez has the sense or ability to get Chelsea playing the correct way.

He cannot change a game as he doesn't make changes to do something different. They are like for like subs and this doesn't do anything for Chelsea.

It seems as if the Spaniard isn't good enough to manage a club challenging for Champions League football when the pressure is on.
