Tottenham must return to winning ways insists Dawson
Tottenham captain Michael Dawson says his side needs to recapture winning form in order to make the top four this season.
Following the 2-2 draw with Everton at White Hart Lane on Sunday the Tottenham defender praised the team’s spirit after their late comeback but stated that they need to start picking up victories to finish in the top four.
The results on Sunday enabled Chelsea to leapfrog Spurs into third on goal difference leaving the sides level on points, but with the Blues having a game in hand.
Also north London rivals Arsenal managed to close the gap on Andre Villas-Boas’ men to just two points and they too have played a game less, therefore Dawson knows that the team need to find that winning formula quickly or face missing out on the Champions League.
And despite Tottenham starting brightly in Sunday’s game, having taken the lead in the opening minute, Everton fought back and would’ve left White Hart Lane the winners had it not been for Gylfi Sigurdsson’s late equaliser.
So the England defender knows it was a valuable point but admitted that it isn’t good enough if they are going to cement a top four finish.
“We showed good character to come back," Dawson told talkSPORT. "We had chances. We hit the bar and at 2-2 we thought we could go on and win it.
"It's always a tough game [against Everton]. David Moyes has a good team there that works their socks off. We'll take the point after being down but we've got to get back to winning ways."
Things don’t get any easier for Spurs as they welcome champions Manchester City to White Hart Lane in their next Premier League game, knowing that they cannot afford a repeat of last year when City won 5-1.
Dawson added: "It was our first home game [last season]," it was an awful start. We're going to have to be at it [to beat them]."
