Manchester City are ‘lying in wait’ over Real Betis midfielder Benat Etxebarria, according to reports.
The Daily Express claims Citizens boss Roberto Mancini is set to ‘redouble his efforts’ to sign the Spanish international midfielder, after the player’s agent admitted his client is not discussing a new contract with the club.
"We are not talking about a new contract with Betis. Benat's future is, probably, far away from Seville. We are not going to wait until his contract runs out, but we will look for a club at the very top level where Benat can play regularly,” said Jose Vicente Biurrun, according to the paper.
However, a worry for Manchester City would come in the shape of Italian transfer rivals, with the agent going on to name-check three Serie ‘A’ sides as good destinations and strong clubs.
"Juventus, Milan and Inter are good destinations. Although at this moment there is no contact, they are very strong clubs and we are open to considering any offer," he added.
Benat joined Betis from Athletic Bilbao in 2009, and has hit top form at the Benito Villamarín after being promoted to the first team a year later.
However, his time with the La Liga outfit appears set to come to an end, and the Express claims Manchester City are once again keen after failing to land the player last summer.
The paper goes on to report that Samir Nasri could be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium in the summer, with Benat a possible replacement for the Premier League champions.
