Manchester United have joined the race to sign Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.
The Daily Express cite speculation in Italy when claiming that Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-term admirer of the player, and that the Red Devils chief is ready to table a bid for the player at the end of the season.
However, Juventus and Inter Milan are also in the frame for the player’s signature, whilst a number of Premier League clubs have been linked with a move in the past.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has expressed an interest in bringing the player to the Emirates Stadium, according to the paper, after the Gunners failed to lure teammate David Villa to north London in the January transfer window.
And, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini saw the player’s potential in 2011 before he joined Barcelona in a move from Udinese.
It’s title rivals Manchester United who are now in the race to sign the player though, despite Sanchez’s lack of form this season. He has just four La Liga goals to his name to-date, and has struggled under Tito Vilanova at the Nou Camp.
But, the Chilean has shown in the past that he has the ability to terrorise defences, and would offer competition alongside Ashley Young, Luis Nani and Antonio Valencia on the flanks for Manchester United at Old Trafford.
