Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admits he’s ‘gutted’ with the derby defeat to Manchester City.
The England international was unable to prevent his side losing at Old Trafford last night (Monday), with goals from James Milner and Sergio Aguero proving to be the difference despite Vincent Kompany’s own goal sandwiched in-between.
Defeat cuts the gap at the top of the Premier League table to 12-points for the Red Devils, and despite the seemingly large cushion, Rooney insists there is no more room for slip-ups during the title run-in.
“Gutted with the result yesterday. No more slip ups now, we need to be ready for Stoke on Sunday,” he wrote on his official Facebook page.
Despite failing to find the net against the Citizens, Rooney has been in good form for Manchester United of late, scoring five goals in his last seven games for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
And, the 27-year-old will be hoping for a chance to add to his current league tally of 12 when the trip is made to the Britannia Stadium on Sunday, with Tony Pulis’ side battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Rooney struck twice in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season, and United's previous record in the fixture against the Potters means they will start as strong favourites.
